Dispatched from the wilderness. Classification: Concerning.
Field Note #011 — Subject: Unidentified Aerial Organisms
Location: Undisclosed wetland-adjacent campsite. Elevation: Low.
Observation period: Ongoing. Unfortunately.
At approximately 2030 hours, a new class of organism was detected in the observation zone. Small. Winged. Operating in swarms of indeterminate size.
Initial assessment: these organisms appear to be conducting their own observation program. Unlike our program, theirs involves direct physical contact with subjects. We find this approach invasive and methodologically unsound.
The organisms demonstrated no interest in stealth. They emitted a high-frequency auditory signal that appeared to serve no tactical purpose beyond announcing their presence. Subjects responded by waving their hands near their own faces, which was ineffective.
One subject applied a chemical deterrent from a small aerosol canister. Effectiveness: partial. The organisms regrouped and resumed operations within 4 minutes.
Another subject burned a small green coil near the campfire perimeter. The organisms appeared mildly inconvenienced.
We observed the organisms successfully complete their objectives on multiple occasions. Subjects responded with sounds of displeasure and the phrase “oh come on.”
We have been observing this planet for a very long time. The mosquitoes were here before us. They will likely be here after us. We respect their commitment. We do not respect their methods.
Assessment: Threat level elevated. Not to us — we are not affected. But we feel for the humans. They are doing their best.
